I would like to nominate Lynne M Taylor as North Carolina's Common Core warrior. I have kept up with Lynne's updates through her website http://CommonCoreDiva.wordpress.com as she continually informs us of the latest developments regarding Common Core in our state as well as upcoming events and committee hearings for which residents need to show up and let our opposition be heard by our elected officials. Lynne has been an unwavering voice of "NO COMPROMISE" in this fight against Common Core/ Race to the Top. In addition to her sharing of information and calls to action, she also dedicates her time and resources to traveling this state to speak before citizen groups and inform them about the issues we face. She lives hours from where I live, yet I know that she has been before my local county groups no less than 3 times now to give information and updates. She does this without any compensation or glory, but only out of the goodness of her heart for concern for the children of our state. She is a champion for North Carolina children and parental rights and is a hero to those of us here in North Carolina who are concerned about the next generation.

(1) Grace Lewis founded Arkansas Against Common Core (AACC) in 2013. She recruited a tech-savvy 16 year old to help her develop a website and FB page to recruit help in Arkansas in the fight against common core, then proceeded to build a network of board members. In January 2015, AACC became a 501(c)4 nonprofit organization with a new name, Arkansans for Education Freedom (AEF).. Grace is now on the board of directors for Arkansans for Education Freedom.
(2) Karen Lamoreaux joined Arkansas Against Common Core (AACC) in late 2013, and has become the face of the AACC/AEF organization. She authored a book on common core: "No Choice, No Voice; Something is Rotten to the Core" and has made media appearances on Fox Business, Glenn Beck, and numerous radio interviews. She is on the Board of Directors for Arkansans for Education Freedom.

Thank you for this opportunity to highlight the hard work of education reform fighters around the country!
I would like to nominate a few people from the state of Rhode Island who have been key fighters against Common Core and testing (PARCC) and have made a significant difference for our state thus far.
The first nominee is Donison Allen. He is a father with 4 children from a rural district in the state, and has been fighting for his own children, the children in his town and across the state. He has been a leader for several reasons, talking endlessly at School Committee Meetings, Town Council Meetings and at the State House to speak for or against bills regarding CC and testing. He even got his town council to pass a resolution against Common Core. He has appeared on television programs, radio shows and has attended and helped to present forums about CC with Dr. Peg Luksik and Dr. Sandra Stotsky. He also is a valuable member of Stop Common Core in RI....often presenting his expertise and hours and hours of research on the page for others to learn from.
But the single most impressive thing Don has accomplished in this fight last year was leading the way in numbers of opt outs for PARCC testing in his town. He was the reason that his school district had the highest number of opt outs in the state of Rhode Island. He was relentless in talking about the issues of CC and PARCC to people, handing out hundreds of flyer to people, as well as putting them on cars and distributing them at sporting events. He is extremely intelligent, articulate and well liked by all, and I strongly feel that Don deserves this award!
The second person I would like to nominate is Jean Lehane. She is a mother of 5, and the administrator and one of the creators of the group Stop Common Core in RI. She is also an amazing advocate for children, and has spent hours of her own valuable time researching CC and PARCC testing, as well as the Competency Based Education/data collection that has come along with this reform. She has helped to arrange forums around the state to help inform districts about Common Core and PARCC, and was instrumental in getting Dr. Sandra Stotsky and Dr. Peg Luksik to our state to do presentations. As busy as she is, she always find the time to attend SC meetings, speak at the State House and meet with other leaders around the state to discuss strategies and brainstorm, and has been a guest speaker at several forums around the state to distribute information to communities about CC and PARCC. She is enthusiastic, and has an infectious energy that doesn't give up, even when districts try to intimidate and make things difficult for people against CC. She is also deserved of this honor!
The first is Kirsten Lombard. Kirsten has written several open letters to the Governor and the Wisconsin legislature which served as a a rallying point for many activist groups across the state to bring attention to the problem of Common Core in Wisconsin:
Kirsten also founded a book company, Resounding Books (http://www.resoundingbooks.org) and published the book "Common Ground on Common Core: Voices from across the Political Spectrum Expose the Realities of the Common Core State Standards." This book is unique in that it brings together experts and activists from across the political spectrum to argue against Common Core. This is an invaluable tool to share with neighbors, family, and friends because it is suitable no matter whether they are liberal, conservative or apolitical. For this tool alone, Kirsten should be considered not only in Wisconsin, but nationwide.
Kirsten has spoken to numerous school boards, parents groups, and political organizations about the dangers of Common Core. She has worked tirelessly as an activist in the area.
The second in Brian Medved. Brian was elected to the Germantown School Board and was instrumental in Germantown School District deciding to develop and adopt its own standards to replace Common Core standards. Germantown is the only school district in Wisconsin to adopt standards different from the state model standards (Common Core standards). Brian started a group called Protect Your Child's Future. That group has hosted several conferences in Germantown including speakers like Dr. Gary Thompson and Dr. Sandra Stotsky to give expert information on the affects of Common Core. He was also instrumental in helping bring experts from across the country to testify before the Wisconsin State Legislature against Common Core in 2013.
You can contact Kirsten Lombard at email@example.com. You can contact Brian Medved at firstname.lastname@example.org.
These two individuals have been the most tireless and influential in Wisconsin in the fight against Common Core. I have worked with them both and they are excellent torchbearers for this cause!
Thank you for your consideration!
